There is another way to get to Damion Carmona (take-out) that is quicker then the route in the Gringo's Guide and paved all the way from Ciudad Valles.  It also is more convenient from Cascadas Micos.

From the Micos put-in drive west 9.6 kilometers (6.0 miles) to the junction with the road north to El Naranjo.  Proceed straight (west) 5.3 kilometers (3.3 miles).  Towards the end you will cross the railroad tracks which will be a signal to start looking for the turn.  Turn right and cross the railroad tracks and on the other side of the tracks the road curves to the right.  Proceed 6.3 kilometers (3.9 miles) through the ridge of mountains.  The road is curvy but paved and in good condition.  This should get you to the south side of Damion Carmona.  When you reach the boulevard do not turn but continue straight across for the road to the bridge and take-out for the Río Ojo Frio.

If you are coming from the north (El Naranjo), there is another way.  At the Igenerio (sugar cane factory) head north at the main junction on a dirt road.  The road bends west.  At the next big junction before climbing into the mountain ridge turn left.  This will take you over the mountain ridge into the Río Ojo Frio valley.  When you reach the river turn left and follow on the small dirt road along the river.  Shortly before the put-in there is a junction; keep right.  The put-in is a nondescript bridge so this is not recommended unless you already know the put-in.

During the high water a tree was undermined and fell across the river blocking the channel just below a very small drop.  Kayakers have created a path through the branches on the left side.  The current is moving enough that there is potential for problems.  As the water levels drop it will become harder to get through the branches on the left.

There are other places on the run with new wood.
