The first annual Carrera del Rio Alsaseca is being held on January 3, 2009.  Entry fee is 50p (100p in January).  The race covers the "roadside" stretch (also called "Tablazo"), which is <2miles but has a couple dozen good drops 1-5m high.  Race begins at 11am.  The winner gets a new kayak.

Rocky Contos posted the results of the Alseseca race.  It was an international crowd but with plenty of Mexicans represented.  Perhaps someone that was there could provide more information on how the race went.

A video of the first Alseseca race.  From the video you can see that this was more than just a bunch of racers.  There were quite a few other people involved.
