In 2005 the train still had a "carga" car and it was easy to take kayaks along.  Starting in 2006, the passenger trains no longer have the "carga" so you have to find other ways to haul you kayak.  There is a "carga" train that runs 2-3X/week but it only stops in certain places (Los Mochis, Temoris, Creel, Chihuahua).  You can send boats on that train and pick them up at the station later.   Another way I have done, if you only have a couple boats, is to pay the driver of the passenger train (100-300p) and tie the boats onto the "maquina" or the engine car (there's room on the sides).  It is possible to reach Temoris by road, so you can also get there by truck.
